About the Role

Work encompasses a variety of subject areas, including but not limited to automation, robotics, control, product development, evaluation, and testing.

RESPONSIBILITIESLead research and develop technologies with applications to the forest sector

Support full integration of technology in an industrial setting

Develop and participate in project proposals and meet all reporting requirements in a timely manner

Assess technologies and project contributions by third party providers

Transfer knowledge to the scientific community industry, or government partners through presentations and technical reports

Support and implement research results to maximize the benefits for clients

Follow health and safety practices in a responsible and proactive manner QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLSB. Sc. in Electrical or Mechatronic Engineering, Master's degree an asset;

Requirements

At least 3 years of industry experience with demonstrated success in the integration of technologies 

 Hold a licensed professional engineer certification (P.Eng.);  Skilled in one or more of the following fields: algorithms, systems control, security of industrial systems, hydraulic systems, field robotics, simulation, sensor integration, computer vision and artificial intelligence.  Knowledge of software development and tools such as ROS, Python, Matlab, OpenCV, machine learning technics, motion modelling;  Excellent communication skills;  Good problem-solving skills, team player, self-starter;  Fluency in French (written and spoken), knowledge of English an asset;  Occasional traveling required, less than 20% of the year

About the Company

FPInnovations’ Forestry 4.0 program includes innovative projects in the field of robotics, such as automated harvesting loading machines. The Research Engineer, Robotics and Autonomous Systems will be tasked to work on one or more activities within this program. They will report to the Manager for Forestry of the Fibre Supply Innovation Center of Excellence (ICE) and will work closely with other scientific, engineering, and technical research staff.
